Mok Wai Hong, Gary 莫偉康
Gary Mok was born in Hong Kong in 1977. He graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing with a BA degree in 2007, followed by a master’s in 2010. He divides his time between Hong Kong and Beijing.
Gary Mok investigates trends of dislocation, displacement, and duality, asking his audience to come to terms with separation, loss, and the transience of time. In viewing his art, we address the day-to-day struggles that we unconsciously overcome, or which gradually overwhelm us. An exponent of line and contour, with a deep affinity for figurative representations of the human frame and spirit, Gary Mok is an artist who recognizes the essential unities of human life, as well as its contradictions and dichotomies.
Gary Mok is an active curator – having curated exhibitions such as Soft Collision – Youth Art From Macau in Hong Kong in 2017. As an artist, he has been selected as a finalist for The Sovereign Asian Art Prize on several separate occasions. His most recent solo show at Ora-Ora was Dual Sim in 2017.
