Young, Samson Kar Fai 楊嘉輝
Samson Young Kar Fai was born in Hong Kong in 1979. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 2002, completed his M. Phil. in Music Composition from the University of Hong Kong in 2007 and his PhD from Princeton in 2013. He lives and works in Hong Kong.
His diverse experiments in sound, video and installation have affirmed him as one of the leading artists in Hong Kong of his generation. Unafraid to address issues of contemporary politics and migration, he expresses dissonant and divergent viewpoints with visual and acoustic inventiveness.
Solo exhibitions include: The World Falls Apart into Facts at Ota Fine Arts, Tokyo in 2021, MAM Collection 012: Samson Young at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo and 2018’s Songs for Disaster Relief World Tour at M+, Hong Kong. He has presented his work at the Kochi-Muziris Biennial in India in 2021, and at the Venice Biennale in 2017. Awards include 2020’s inaugural Sigg Prize and 2015’s inaugural BMW Art Journey Award.
