Monkey - Huang Yongyu's "Zodiac Series" Exhibition

1 February - 14 March 2016
Overview

To celebrate the Year of the Monkey, Galerie Ora-Ora is proud to present the latest sculpture of the Animal Zodiac Series from internationally acclaimed Chinese painting master Huang Yongyu.  Since 2008, his Animal Zodiac Series has been greatly sought after by collectors and auction houses alike.

This year, introducing the “Monkey”, Huang utilises a rich and profound artistic culture, revealing a distinctive personal style as well as a sense of modern aestheticism. The inspiration behind the sculpture stems from the famous moral of the “Three Wise Monkeys”.  However, the artist reinterprets the proverb—“Look not at what is contrary to propriety; listen not to what is contrary to propriety; speak not what is contrary to propriety”—in a humorous manner, depicting three courageous monkeys exaggerating the actions of “looking, listening and speaking”. Huang’s “Monkey” not only represents wit and intelligence, but also conveys the artist’s views towards the open-mindedness and diversity of this new era.
