Art Interview: Peng Wei and Henrietta Tsui

Among the mayhem that was Art Basel in Hong Kong 2014 was a petite and demure Chinese artist called Peng Wei, whose recent body of work, Letters from a Distance, is an ode to ancient Chinese brush painting. The series, an amalgamation of traditional Chinese landscape painting and modern conceptual art, is rendered even more exceptional by the fact that Peng designed and created the scrolls and wooden boxes for the works, a job traditionally done by a craftsman or artisan. By doing this herself, Peng captures the wholeness of the art form of Chinese scrolls and albums.
