Yang Jinsong teaches in the Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. His recent paintings on the landscape of the woods, clouds and sea.. He paints these supposedly gentle sceneries with strong lines and in near-monotonous colour palette, stripping away the emotions and human values with which landscape paintings are expected to endue. The “Fifteenth of the Sea Series“ is a painting that requires the viewer to appreciate the texture and rhythm of the lines that chase each other in the picture, and continue to extend to the far distance beyond the picture frame. As philosopher Wang Min'an evaluates Yang Jinsong's works: "These paintings, what they really want to express is the infinity of the sea... His paintings are not a proper capture of beauty and passion, but an attempt to transform the still pictorial space into a long, one-minute exercise time."
