Ding Shiwei graduated from the New Media Department of the China Academy of Art. He uses a variety of media in his creations, such as experimental animation and video installations. In this exhibition is a painting installation that is difficult to define. The work consists of two parts, a majestic painted oceanic vortex drawn and the other a cube suspended in the centre of the vortex by magnetic force. Ding Shiwei juxtaposes an image of catastrophe by natural force with a geometric form that does not exist in nature but created by human rationality. The black geometric cubic shape floats and rotates from the centre of the vortex. Like the scene of Genesis, the installation bethinks of the unknown and seemingly reveals the hidden force of mutual traction between all things.
