Ora-Ora Live — Episode Four: Interview with Artist Annie Wan

This week, Ora-Ora speaks with Annie Wan, artist and Assistant Professor of the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University, as she discusses her journey to becoming a ceramic artist in Hong Kong.

 

Annie Wan is an artist working in ceramics with an emphasis on conceptual approaches. Her research is deeply engaged with re-thinking the materiality of ceramics, the process of making and extending the language of contemporary ceramics art. Wan explores themes including consumerism, craftsmanship versus mass production and the relationship between art and everyday objects in her work.

 

Wan has participated in numerous local and international exhibitions and her work is in prominent public collections including Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Burger Collection and the University of Salford Collection. Awards include Artist of the Year in 2018 by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. She has also participated in numerous international residencies and international arts festivals and biennials. Wan obtained her Master’s degrees from the Fine Arts Department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1999 and has served as an Assistant Professor at AVA since 2015.
