Overview

Among the 12 animal zodiacs, "snake" bears the meaning of wisdom, fortune and similar to the turtle, also auspiciously symbolizes longevity. The 'snake' also has cultural significance in Chinese folklore.  The famous folktale, Legend of the White Snake, narrates a story of a snake spirit who transforms into a woman to repay the kindness of a man who had helped her in his previous life. Eventually the two become lovers, however, her true identity as a snake spirit separates them. After overcoming numerous obstacles and years of hardship, the lovers are finally reunited. From this story, the 'snake' is also regarded as a symbol for love, reunion and a blessing for lovers and families.

For the past five years, Huang Yongyu has launched a limited edition bronze sculpture of that year's animal zodiac. Different from the common image of the snake, Huang presents his bronze snake sculpture in the form of a king cobra, gracefully encircling itself. Not only is it a representation of power and vitality, but at the same time, the ring form is a metaphor for harmony as well as reunion. Limited to 1000 editions, the "Snake" is exquisite and breathtaking, bringing warmth and good fortune to all families for the New Year.
