Zhang Yanzi Brings out the Essence of Art and Science in Hong Kong

Art and science do not necessarily mix; it would be a rare occurrence  to exhibit an art show at a medical science museum. However, renowned Chinese artist Zhang Yanzi’s medical-themed artworks are an exception.

Galerie Ora-Ora and the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences present a jointly arranged solo show by the Chinese ink artist to celebrate their 10th and 20th anniversaries, respectively. Titled “Essence,” the show will run from July 8 through  September 11 at the Museum.

“Essence” will bring art and science together as the artist incorporates into her works common Eastern and Western medical materials, such as herbal medicine, gauzes bandages, and pills. Accompanied by interactive workshops, meet-the-artist sessions, and guided tours and lectures, “the exhibition is for all Hong Kongers, families, medical professionals, and artists to be inspired by how two subjects, often considered as complete opposites, come together through the philosophy, culture and healing processes of both Western and Eastern medicine,” as a press release puts it.
