“Woven Sentiments” by Man Fung-yi
Exhibition Period: 28 May – 26 June, 2010
For ancient Chinese ladies, needlework was a means to express affection and pray for blessings. Hong Kong contemporary artist Man Fung-yi reinvents this tradition by embroidering with sticks of incense and knitting with metal threads. Making use of her own and her family’s clothing, she creates metal-woven dresses, jackets, shoes and bags. Whilst they are dazzling sculptures, they are also intimate records of their lives and bodies at a specific time and space, carriers of memories, and the product of the artist’s every day sentiments.
As the Grand Opening Exhibition since Galerie Ora-Ora’s relocation and expansion to our new gallery space, friends and art lovers everywhere joined us and Man Fung-yi herself for the opening reception on 28th May. An exclusive presentation of her latest artworks, this exhibition also marks Man’s first solo gallery show in the last 5 years.
