“Modern Warriors” by Li Xiao

Galerie Ora-Ora is pleased to present new paintings from Chinese artist Li Xiao in a series titled Modern Warriors. This exhibition entertains notions of femininity and modernity as juxtaposed against ancient emblems of masculinity and power. Li Xiao uses bold vivid color to paint figures from contemporary life—celebrities, models, farmers, and workers—onto true color renderings of Emporer Qin’s Terracotta Warriors. The artist works to engage us in an exploration of each transformation in an attempt to express the distance and unfamiliarity of that ancient culture with society today.
