“Fortune Tiger” by Huang Yongyu
Exhibition Period: Feb, 2010
According to Chinese astrology, the year 2010 will be the year of the Tiger. Traditionally the Tiger symbolizes courage, competence, confidence, independence and leadership. This year, internationally renowned Chinese artist Huang Yongyu portrays it in bronze, with a wide smile and barring teeth and named it “Fortune Tiger”. It symbolizes the blessing of joy and prosperity for the new year.
The press launch of Huang Yongyu’s “Fortune Tiger” took place 28th December, 2009, at Beijing Hotel, China. When asked of why he created the sculpture, Huang answered that the Chinese animal zodiac is a significant part of the nation’s tradition and culture, and like the rest of China, he enjoys making something auspicious to welcome and make wishes for the new year.
The “Fortune Tiger” is a bronze sculpture limited to 1000 editions, and it is the third in Huang’s Animal Sculpture Series.
