Apart from showcasing 18 of Mr. Liu’s masterpieces, this exhibition also featured his first piece of painting that combines picto-calligraphy with oil painting- “A Fisherman”.

Ms. Henrietta Tsui, the owner of gallery remarked at the opening, “We are proud of having the chance to feature Mr. Liu’s works for he appears as one of the very few contemporary Chinese artists being able to express Chinesec culture in an innovative yet poetic way”.

The exhibition was very well received with more than 200 guests coming to the opening. Special thanks to Swire Properties for the venue and their assistance in realizing the show.

APRIL

“Sand Play” by Kim Chang-Young

Period | 14 Apr 19 May 07

This extraordinary exhibition unveiled how the Korea-born Japan-based artist Kim Chang-Young introduced a new structure that comprehends both illusion and reality. As the title “SAND PLAY” suggested, the basic element of this structure is sand. After coating the actual sand on the surfaces of canvas, he painted, on the sand, the traces of footprints or scratches by hand. At a glance, since the sand was actual and the traces too, looked like the real ones although they were mere illusions painted in oil colours.  Spectators were intrigued by this first-ever-seen painting technique and thus opened up discussion with the artist in the opening evening.
